Young Eagles Rally

Additional pilots and members served as ground crew. The weather was magnificent. There was a harmonious and continuous flow of activities. A fresh breath of spring was present from the newest volunteer, Caroline Hudders. Caroline ably assisted the registration table pros: Judy McGee, Mary Smith, and Betty-Lee Ward. The photographers, Hector Constantzos and Ken Roy, kept up a steady pace meeting all incoming flights. Hector and Ken took the Polaroid and digital photos and distributed posters and the certificates prepared by registration table crew. Tom McGee and Charlie Smith were busy assisting and coordinating activies, including going out and picking up Pizza donated by Papa Gino.

Young Eagles flown were from Acton, Ashland, Bolton, Boxborough, Clinton, Concord, Fitchburg, Groton, Harvard, Hopkinton, Hudson, Leominster, Maynard, Natick, Stow, Sudbury, Upton, Wayland, Westborough, and Hollis, N.H.

"Fantastic" "Wonderful" and many "Thank-you's" were some of the comments we heard from the young people, their faces aglow with joy.

The Civil Air Patrol Squadron based at Minute Man Air Field had a table and display of CAP activities and opportunities. Manned by Lt. Ingraham and two CAP members, they were a welcome and helpful addition to the morning's activities.

Special thankyou to Nancy's Air Field Cafe! The water and fresh coffee for the pilots and ground crew was enjoyed and appreciated.

A special recognition and thanks to Sandra (Sandy) Scheurman, reporter from The Stow Paper. Sandy brought us a copy of the 9/6/02 issue (Volume 2, #47) which featured an excellent article by her. Front page "Area Youth Take a Free Ride in the Sky" photo (courtesy Chapter 196) was of Lee Cooprider and Young Eagle holding certificate. We look forward to seeing Sandy's next article that she is currently preparing.

Thank you to one and all. Chapter 196 rallies have flown 242 Young Eagles (thru 9/14/02) for year 2002. Additional flights have been made between rallies and the paper work is being given to coordinator, Charlie Smith by the pilots (16 so far). So there should be quite an impressive ending total for the year.
